Local City Information
Canal City Hakata
Canal City Hakata is a shopping complex comprising a great variety of business and leisure facilities including a shopping mall, a movie theatre, amusement facilities, two hotels, showrooms and corporate offices, together creating a city theatre.

Kushida Shrine
Kushida Shrine is the tutelary shrine for the Hakata area. Hakata Gion Yamakasa Festival is held here annually in July, and a decorated Yamakasa portable shrine is exhibited throughout the year.  A large ginkgo tree at the shrine has been designated as a natural treasure.

Hakata Machiya Folk Museum
Located across from the Kushida Shrine, this museum introduces the life and culture of Hakata mainly from the Meiji and Taisho eras.  Traditional architecture, crafts and many other items related to Hakata are featured here.

Sumiyoshi Shrine
The main shrine has been designated as a cultural property of national importance.  There also are a noh theatre and Rakusuien, a scenic Japanese Garden.
